Sorry, no ‘ang pao’ for your wedding if you serve shark’s fin. [Infographic]

To all my dearest friends, I would like to say sorry in advance if you do serve shark’s fin soup during your wedding. I would still attend your wedding but most probably you won’t find my ‘ang pao’.

Why? The infographic below explains everything.

Watch it! The Internship 2013

the-internship-poster

The Internship didn’t strike to me as a movie to be on my ‘must watch’ list. Particularly because Vince Vaughn always appeared to be acting off slap stick humor. Owen Wilson is fine, but this duo definitely can’t pull off that great initial attraction when you watch the trailer. What made me watch it was because I was invited for the premier with a whole big bunch of friends. So I thought it should be fun not because of the movie, but because of the gang.

The Story
It started off with Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) and Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) losing their jobs and trying to find a new footing in their life. But since they are both so dinosaur in many ways, it seems hard to find a new job that requires zero to none computing skills.
Despite the hurdle, Billy managed to convince Nick to join Google’s summer internship program. That is possibly one of the worst suggestion anyone could ever make. Having to fight with thousands of fine young graduates, they actually managed to get into their program. But this doesn’t mean they are hired. It’s only an internship program.
The movie gets fun when they reach Googleplex. They will have to form teams and compete to get the top spot to have a chance to be employed.

The Film
The movie didn’t start off with a bang. It actually went quite slowly for the first 30 minutes. But the build up of the movie was there. It slowly reels you in with all the witty jokes and odd scenes. It gets fun when they finally reach Googleplex. This is where you’ll see some Google cultures, but it does make you wonder if everything that was shown in the movie is actually part of the real internship program. It does have quite a number of odd sayings and doings.
This movie is a feel good movie. It’s the kind of movie where you’ll see a team formed with a bunch of people who are the outcast or last picked. But somehow this team would rise from the ashes and carry the last member across the finishing line and still magically win the whole game despite pitting against the best of the best teams that is almost guaranteed to win.
Great movie overall. Jokes that require a bit of thinking instead of being slap stick. Good build up of story line instead of being predictable. Great performances by the duo that did not disappoint.
Also, this movie has got one of the best ending credits.

Go watch it for a relaxed fun time.

Marissa Mayer, the superwoman behind Yahoo.

marissamayerbaby

Nicolas Carlson from Business Insider has written a very insightful article on Marissa Mayer.

This article covers her early years as a student growing up. Getting her job at Google. Doing what she’s good at until she got demoted. But the demotion actually help shaped her into taking on new challenges in becoming the CEO of Yahoo! while having a baby.

Besides covering aspects of her life. It also talks about the struggles Yahoo! is facing and also the meticulous process in deciding who will be the next CEO of Yahoo! between Mayer or Levinsohn.

My favorite part of this article also made me laugh. Below is the excerpt.

Mayer heard him out, taking notes the whole time.
Within 24 hours, Mayer let Heckman know that she’d canceled all his deals and that his services were no longer needed by Yahoo.
Heckman flew to Ibiza, Spain for a 30-day vacation.

I can’t help but laughed out loud at the last line. A 30- day vacation was needed for being fired!

Reading the article also helped me understand what do people do most on their mobile.

The results made her laugh.
She learned that after activities like calling people, texting, and maps, the main things people do on their phones everyday are: check email, check weather, get news, get stock quotes, check sports scores, get entertainment news, share photos, communicate with groups, and ask questions.

So that’s what we all do on our mobiles?

The last bit that I liked about the article was how mobile startups are being bought over by silicon valley companies.

Yahoo lacked the mobile talent to staff such a group, so Mayer spent $200 million at the end of 2012 and through August 2013 acquiring more than 20 mobile startups. In almost every case, Yahoo would shut down the startup’s product, sign its engineering and product development people to two- and four-year contracts, and integrate them into Cahan’s team.

This is how you become rich overnight!

Maybe some are just not cut to be in a relationship? [Video]

This video makes me wonder. Could this be the ultimate reason to 40 year old virgins? Of course I don’t expect all the woman to be starting to kill off everyone but the video does make a bit of sense. Minus the killing part is ultimately the kind of woman who just can’t stand anything. To set in their own world and ways to even want to accept anything else.

I guess some people are just not cut to be in a relationship at all.

How did God create durian.

godcreatedurian1

Shortly after God removed the tree of life and the tree of wisdom, God decided to make a super fruit for man kind. A fruit where it contains –

  • Increase Immunity
  • Cure Anemia
  • Improve Bone Health
  • Improve Sleep quality
  • Maintain Blood pressure
  • Fight Free radicals
  • Improves Digestion
  • Slow the Aging effect
  • Protect from cancer

After carefully stuffing all the 8 benefits into one fruit, God immediately realized that this fruit might just be too good and He simply couldn’t risk the entire Earth’s population forgo all the other available fruits on Earth and just eat this super fruit He has just made.

But God loves us. He loves us so much that He decided to keep this super fruit for us. God being God, came up with a plan. He would then make the meat of the fruit soft with different shades of yellow to orange when it ripens. Like all fruits it will have a shell with different compartments to store the meat in case part of the fruit goes bad, you will still be able to eat the other half. God was pleased with the super fruit he has just created. He decided that this fruit will now grow on trees, big tall trees with sturdy branches to hold the weight of the fruit.

Upon planting it, there was a problem. Tens of thousands of species on Earth flock towards this tree. Looks like God did make a fruit that is more desirable than any other. In an instant, the shell quickly hardens up with spikes starting to emerge from the hardened shell. The hardened shell and strong, sharp spikes are to ward off most of the animals. With the new design of the super fruit. God immediately implemented a system where by nature, this spiky fruit will not drop on anyone’s head. Since then, only a few selected animals who knew how great this super fruit is and would still try to eat it.

With abundance of health benefits stuff into one fruit. It is almost unavoidable that this fruit will be too heaty for man kind. God saw that this was a way of preventing humans over eating it and decided to keep it as it is. Another notable change was the strong unique smell that is now emitting from the meat of the fruit. Some say God did this to further prevent animals from eating it, others say God did it so only the wiser ones gets the benefit. Until today, it is still uncertain why the smell was there in the first place. A smell so powerful it could stay on your breath for hours after eating it.

On behalf of man kind, I thank you God for creating this fruit worthy to be the king of fruits!

I recently read an article stating the health benefits of durian and that inspired me to write a fictional story above. Below you will find the elaborated points of the 8 health benefits stated above. Durian is truly a great fruit with those 8 amazing health benefits squeeze into one fruit. No wonder I always feel super happy after eating durian. It could chase away all my blues. And not to mention, I must’ve gotten my youthful looks from eating durian!

Health Benefits

Immunity: Durian fruit contains high amounts of Vitamin C. It provides about 33% of the RDA of the daily requirement of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is powerful antioxidants that protect against infectious free radicals. High Vitamin C is required to increase immune system function. Thus it provides immunity towards common disease like cold and flu. It is also effective to protect from infections.

Anemia: Durian fruits contain high amount of folate. Folate is required for the production of new RBC cell. So it stimulates production of new blood that improves the functionality of the body and provides a new energy flow. Also it is beneficial to anemia patient those who suffer from low RBC. So durian fruit can be used to cure and prevent anemia. Also it contains copper and iron that increase the production blood.

Bone Health: Durian fruit contains good amount of calcium that improves bone density and promotes healthy bones. Also it contains high amount of potassium. Potassium is required for development of healthy bone. Potassium balances sodium and thus reduces the loss of calcium through kidney. So potassium directly increases capacity of the body to absorb calcium. Thus it improves bone health and prevents osteoporosis.

Improve Sleep: Durian fruit contains amino acids known as Tryptophan a natural sleeping chemical. Tryptophan is required to metabolize serotonin and melatonin. These both Neuro-chemicals are beneficial in improving mood. So it is effective to relieve stress and headache. Along with it these Neuro-chemicals promotes deep and healthy sleep. So it is effective to cure sleeping problem and depression.

Maintain Blood Pressure: Durian fruit contains high amounts of potassium. Potassium is required to maintain sodium level. Also high potassium is required to maintain fluid level i.e. to balance electrolyte. Thus it helps to maintain high blood pressure and it reduces the risk of stroke or heart attack.

Fight Free radicals: Durian fruit contains good amount of antioxidants. It contains Vitamin B-complex, C and E. These antioxidants are important nutrients that make durian fruit healthy. Antioxidants are required to protect the body from oxidative stress. High oxidative stress is caused due to pollution and UV radiation. This process creates free radicals from oxygen molecules. This free radical destroys normal cell DNA and change the function of cells to form cancer cells. But antioxidants neutralize these free radicals and acts as a shield to protect cells from damage. So durian fruit protects from cancer.

Improve Digestion: Durian fruit contains fiber which provides roughage and improves digestion. Thus it is effective to prevent constipation.

Ageing: Durian fruit contains good amount of antioxidants which protects skin from free radicals. Ageing is a slow process that starts with increase with age. But, free radicals have stimulated this ageing process at early age. Antioxidants neutralize these free radicals and protect from early ageing and wrinkles. It also nourishes skin for clear and smooth skin

3000km, 2 weddings, 1 dive trip.

 Wednesday 11.26pm
I was standing in front of the conveyor belt waiting for my luggage in Miri airport. Always feels good to be home.

This trip was made for 2 main purposes, a wedding and a dive trip. It’s a short 2 days 2 nights trip because I had to come back to KL for another wedding. Would have bail that KL wedding but no, ain’t gonna let the bride give me shit till the day I die.

alex

Thursday 6:41pm
Arrived early for the wedding to beat the parking shortage.

This wedding ain’t no typical Chinese restaurant wedding. It’s held in Ming Cafe itself! If I didn’t have to dive the next morning. I would go crazy on the yummy pork buffet line. Did a speech for the lovely couple in the picture and kinda made the groom teared a little. Hope I didn’t say anything to upset him. Few friends and I had to go slow on drinks and leave before the clock strikes 12. Great food, great company, great laughter, great wedding! Congrats again to Alex & Agnes.

dive

Friday 7:28am
Kolok mee for breakfast before the dive.

Did 3 dives. One of it was a wreck dive where a Japanese warship has sank during World War II. Upon arriving on the location itself, you could smell the oil leakage from the ship wreck itself. Makes me wonder why is there still oil in that ship even after 68 years. Will write a more in depth post on this dive soon for those who wants to read more about it.

Saturday 12:33am
Decided to watch The Conjuring with a couple of friends.

By now, I’m dead tired. Took a power nap before heading to the cinema. It’s an amazing horror film. Couple it up with a midnight show, it sure does gives you the chills. Can feel my chair moved because of sudden jolts by others on the same row. One thing for sure, trust Asians in making horror films. Did you know the director, James Wan was born in Kuching? So proud of Sarawak roots!

Saturday 9:50am
First in line to board AirAsia. Super ‘kiasu’. Got a nice front seat 11B but the seats can’t recline. Freaking hell!

Saturday 6:33pm
Woke up by a phone call.

Good thing that call came in. My alarm was set to 6am instead of pm. I could’ve so missed the wedding. I’m happy I made it to the wedding. It’s such a blessing being able to witness all the joy and happiness that is bestowed upon my friend Shu Fen. And partying with her again makes me realize how much I’ve missed and appreciate her company. Congrats to you Chuong & Shu Fen.

friend

Lastly, not forgetting all the family and friends that I’ve met up with in these few days. I had the time of my life! I thank God for the safe journey, 2 wonderful weddings, the dive trip and countless joys and laughter.
